God’s guidance today – an interview with Costa for STAND 2013

James de Costabadie (Costa) is the Minister at St Johns Latimer Square in Christchurch, New Zealand.

At this year’s STAND conference, we’ll have the privilege of having him teach a seminar on “God’s Guidance Today”.

Costa graciously took the time to answer a few questions about his life, and what he’ll be speaking about during his seminar.

1. Briefly share your testimony of conversion with us.

I was converted aged 19 when the only Christian I knew persuaded me to look at who Jesus is; I began to see that Jesus is good news for bad people, and that I was a bad person who needed his forgiveness – and after some months was able to hold out no longer.

2. Why do you think what you’re teaching on is an important topic?

All Christians should want to know God’s will for their lives – and a consideration of what the Scriptures say on guidance is the opportunity to discover what that will is and how to discover it more fully.

3. What do you hope will be filling people’s minds and hearts as they walk away from your message(s)?

Wonderful! – God is guiding me each day. Now I need to trust (what is not in the scriptures) and obey (what is in the scriptures).

4. Is there any passage of Scripture that sums up what you’ll be sharing?

Psalm 25.

5. Can you expound on one point that you’ll be making in your message?

Much of our problem is that our agenda and God’s agenda do not coincide, and we need to be more interested in his and less interested in our own!

6. How has what you’re going to speak on affected your own life?

It affects me each day in making countless decisions, including how to use time, how to react to every situation and in every conversation, and how to behave in obviously moral areas. The topic affects every single area of life each day!

7. Can you recommend any books, articles, websites, or materials on this topic?

Guidance and the Voice of God by Phillip Jensen and Tony Payne is a helpful introduction on the subject.

8. What would you say to someone who is trying to decide whether or not to come to STAND 2013?

Have you ever regretted making an investment in eternity before?
